Lawsuit: No Gay Love Matches On eHarmony

LOS ANGELES — Linda Carlson is looking for love, and suing eHarmony.Carlson is in search of another woman. She claims that eHarmony’s policy of only matching opposite sex couples amounts to illegal sexual discrimination under California law. She said the company discriminates against gays, lesbians and bisexuals.

The Northern California woman said she wrote to eHarmony to complain and the company refused to change the policy. The suit also names company founder Neil Clark Warren and his wife Marylyn as defendants. It seeks class-action status, a jury trial and unspecified damages.

In a statement, Carlson said such bias is “hurtful and disappointing.”

The company denies it’s engaging in discrimination against gays. The company said its current research is based on successful heterosexual marriages but that nothing bars it from providing same-sex matching in the future, though it’s “just not a service we offer now.”
